Wheels to Independence (WI). Leah’s House has both repaired and donated cars to clients who have successfully moved through the program. Working with area repair shops like Curtis Tire on Great Mills Road, this project gives clients an opportunity for even greater success in achieving and maintaining their independence. The goal is that clients would be able to access childcare, and employment as well as pursuing educational opportunities. The poverty level for a family of three is around $17,000 per year. The average income for a family of three receiving only Temporary Cash Assistance from Social Services is approx. $6,888 per year. A persons earning potential has to be increased to truly make a long term difference.
